Jewelry is not just an accessory. Jewelry can often make or break an outfit, and more often than none, they come to the rescue of a fashion blunder.

But choosing the right piece is tricky. Especially when it comes to earrings, which have to complement not only the outfit and hairstyle, but their wearer's face as well – and no one knows that better than celebrities do.

Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Drew Barrymore, for example, have a round face.

Cameron Diaz

The main feature of a round face is the circular shape that is as wide as it is long. Earrings with long, angular lines, like drop earrings, ovals and oblongs, can elongate such features. Avoid wearing small or chunky earrings.

Celebrities like Charlize Theron, Jessica Alba, and Beyonce Knowles have an oval face. The main feature of an oval face is the forehead, which is usually wider when compared to the chin.

 Beyonce

Women who have an oval face should opt for earrings with soft shapes like studs, ovals and teardrops; but luckily, if you have an oval-shaped face, you can wear almost any design.

Jessica Alba

Stars like Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson have a heart shaped face, which are usually narrow at the jaw line and wide at the forehead or cheekbone.

Women with a heart-shaped face can wear earrings with a wide bottom and soft curves like ovals, teardrops or pyramid styles. However, you should avoid wearing earrings that are heart shaped.

Hollywood icons Katherine Hepburn and Sophia Loren were blessed with a diamond-shaped face, which have a broad, strong forehead with a square hairline and an angular jaw.

Women who have a diamond-shaped face should opt for wider designs – a straight line and curves combination will work best, and so would studs and small drop earrings.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Angelina Jolie have an oblong face, which are longerand not as wide as a square face.

Such features are best complemented by simple studs and chandelier style earrings. Avoid angular and long earrings.

Last, but not least are our favorite square-faced celebrities like Demi Moore, Katie Holmes, Geena Davis and Salma Hayek. The main features of a square face are broad and strong forehead, square hairline and angular jaw.

Katie Holmes

Women who have a square face should choose earrings with round lines, like hoops and long styles, and avoid wearing angular or very large earrings, which will make their faces look wider.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the sparkliest ring of all?

Thursday, 21 January 2010 11:08 by Roe Kalb

This Valentine’s Day may be extra special for us – rumor has it that Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio is planning to propose to Israeli model/girlfriend Bar Refaeli – and on the most romantic day of the year too.

Bar Refaeli

The British media reported that DiCaprio was prompted to pop the question by his mother, who apparently never quite got over her son's faux pas with catwalk queen Gisele Bundchen. Just to make the proposal even harder to refuse, DiCaprio is said to be planning on presenting Refaeli with a are canary yellow diamond ring. We're keeping the month of June clear, just in case.

In the spirit of sharing the joy, this would be a good time to look back on several other sparkling stunners adorned by various celebrities in ways of engagement rings.

Hip Hop princess Beyonce's beau Jay-Z made her an offer she couldn't refuse when her presented her with an emerald-cut, 18-carat, flawless diamond set in platinum. The Lorraine Schwartz design set him back a cool $5 million.

English rose Elizabeth Hurley's finger is the stage for a 15.09-carat Asscher-cut diamond set in a white gold band adorned with pave diamonds, which is an exclusive Haute Joallerie collection piece.

Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria couldn't possibly be that desperate when you consider NBA star Tony Parker decided to go for a slam dunk when he proposed, and gave her a custom-made Jean Dousset ring featuring a  5-carats, emerald-cut diamond set in a white gold ring circled with a total of 248 smaller diamonds.

Spicing it up on our list is Victoria Beckham, who sports sparkles from Boodle and Dunthorne in the shape of a 3-carat, marquise-cut diamond. Husband David Beckham scored himself the matching diamond engagement band set with 96 diamonds.

Naturally, to such list would be complete without a touch of royalty, this time with a nostalgic twist: when Prince Rainier of Monaco asked Hollywood star Grace Kelly for her hand, he slipped a 12-carat emerald cut diamond engagement ring on her finger. The eye-popper was even featured in Kelly's last movie, “High Society”: During a close up in the 1956 film, co-star Bing Crosby teases – "some stone, did you mine it yourself?"
